Over the past three months, the Press and Online Media Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina has organised two online meetings of the Expert Working Group tasked with preparing amendments to the Press and Online Media Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of this process is to align the Code with the ethical challenges arising from the development and use of artificial intelligence in the media.
The activity was implemented within the UNESCO project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe: Support to Journalism as a Public Good”, funded by the European Union.
The Expert Working Group consists of Vildana Selimbegović, Editor-in-Chief of daily “Oslobođenje”; Lejla Turčilo, PhD, Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo; Berislav Jurič, journalist at Bljesak.info; Assistant Professor Nasir Muftić, PhD, Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo; and Assistant Professor Borislav Vukojević, PhD, Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Banja Luka.
During the first meeting, held on April 10, 2026, the members of the Expert Working Group reviewed the existing provisions of the Code, identified the key challenges that artificial intelligence poses to journalism and the media, and defined the direction of the forthcoming amendments.
The second meeting, held on June 15, 2026, resulted in the preparation of a draft of the amendments to the Press and Online Media Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The draft will be further refined and presented to the public by the end of this year.
Through this important initiative, the Press and Online Media Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to strengthen media self-regulation and promote the responsible use of emerging technologies in the digital media environment.
