The Press and Online Media Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina is continuing the implementation of the third year of the three-year regional project “Building Trust in Media in South East Europe: Support to Journalism as a Public Good.” The project is implemented in cooperation with UNESCO and with the financial support of the European Union.
The project’s primary objective is to strengthen media self-regulation and enhance professional standards of journalism by providing a free mediation mechanism for individuals affected by inaccurate and unprofessional reporting by print and online media in Bosnia and Herzegovina, regularly convening meetings of the Press Council’s Complaints Commission, and revising and updating the Press and Online Media Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Following the preparation of draft amendments by the Expert Group to align the Code with the ethical challenges arising from the development and use of artificial intelligence in journalism and the media, the revision process will be finalized in the coming period, and the updated Code will be presented to the public.
To ensure the accessibility and visibility of these amendments, the Code will be distributed directly to media outlets in Bosnia and Herzegovina via email, ensuring that journalists, editors, and media owners are informed of its content in a timely manner. These activities are intended to raise awareness among media professionals of the new ethical standards governing the use of artificial intelligence, facilitate their implementation, and encourage the consistent application of ethical principles in everyday journalistic practice.
To further ensure its wide accessibility and practical implementation, the revised Code will also be published on the website and social media channels of the Press and Online Media Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina. By doing so, journalists, editors, and media owners will be promptly informed about the new ethical standards, particularly those relating to the responsible use of artificial intelligence in journalism. These activities aim to increase awareness of the updated ethical standards on the use of artificial intelligence, support their effective implementation, and promote the consistent application of ethical principles in the day-to-day work of media professionals.
